Background

Benegut® – Science & Application

Benegut, the proprietary Perilla frutescens leaf extract, contains a specific ratio of selected flavonoids, particularly Vicenin 2, in combination with rosmarinic acid. All active compounds naturally found in Perilla.

Benegut uniquely combines prokinetic and antispasmodic as well as anti-inflammatory effects, leading to an immediate, perceptible relief of gastrointestinal discomfort.

In vitroex vivo and human studies demonstrated that Benegut is able to balance bowel movement by interacting with the neurological system and therefore can counteract the effects of psychosocial factors, such as e.g. stress causing altered gut physiology leading to gastrointestinal discomfort.

It has proven prebiotic effects, particularly to support growth of L. plantarum, B. lactis, B. longum infantis and B. longum longum. Due to its proven prebiotic effects it is an ideal candidate for blends with probiotic and / or other prebiotic ingredients.

Benegut is the first non-probiotic, innovative ingredient that improves gastrointestinal discomfort and prevents disease linked to gut irregularity and inflammation, such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Benegut is high quality, sustainable, IP protected, natural ingredient, approved to be used in food supplements in Europe and the U.S. It is a water soluble fine beige powder with a recommended daily dosage of 300 mg.

Benegut® – Origin & Production

Benegut is obtained by water extraction out of Perilla frutescens (L.) leaves. Perilla frutescens is a member of the family Lamiaceae and is an annual edible herbaceous plant, native to Asia.  Globally, it is well known as spice of the Japanese cuisine, where it is named Shiso.

Beneguts production facility and manufacturing process comply with the highest international standards of safety, hygiene and quality control: ISO-9001:2008, ISO-22000:2005 and is GMP certified for food supplements. Benegut complies with highest quality and traceability standards, completed by phytochemical characterization and stability data.
