Phytochemistry

Finding out what´s in the plant

Phytochemistry or natural products chemistry is chemistry focussing on the composition of plants. The main interest is on secondary plant ingredients, like polyphenols. Depending on the aim and method applied it is possible to quantify known compounds or to identify new molecular structures.

Our methods

Our phytochemical analyses include determines of total polyphenols or flavonoids as well as the identification and quantification of specific molecules in natural products.

Whenever possible, we apply existing, validated, scientific methods, like high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) based on European Pharmacopoeia methods or ISO methods. In addition we develop and apply in-house methods for our proprietary plant extract.

Our methods are

  • UV/VIS – ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy
  • HPLC – high-performance liquid chromatography
  • LC – thin-layer chromatography
  • MS – mass spectrometry

Example I: Perilla frutescens – HPLC Analysis

Example II: Mangifera indica – HPLC Analysis
